Amid today's economic statistics, one number stands out: seven. On the seventh day of the seventh month, we've learned the country has reached the seven million job mark in the Clinton Presidency. Since January 1993, the economy has added seven million new jobs -- ahead of schedule in fulfilling the President Clinton's pledge of eight million jobs in four years.

In June, the economy added 215,000 new jobs -- as the unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent, with no sign of wage- push inflation. Although one should always be cautious in interpreting one month's figures, job growth in the construction and service industries was robust. But manufacturing jobs declined for the third straight month.

As always, the President remains committed to ensuring that the healthy economy touches the lives of all Americans. And so he will continue his effort to balance the budget while boosting investments in education and job training.
