A 525-mile relay race that begun yesterday in Buffalo, N.Y.
will end at noon Friday, May 26 at the U.S. Labor Department's Veteran's Park.
The eighth annual Who Dares, Wins/Veterans' Run for Jobs
is a relay backed with pledges by employers to offer a veteran a job for every
mile covered. More than 400 veterans have been placed in jobs through
employers' pledges since the event began. In previous years joggers have run
from Buffalo to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Boston and Detroit.
The finish-line celebration at the Labor Department in
downtown Washington will coincide with a brief memorial service at the
Veterans' Park on department grounds. An Armed Forces Color Guard will present
and retire the colors. Deputy Secretary of Labor Thomas P. Glynn and Assistant
Secretary of Labor for Veterans' Employment and Training Service, Preston M.
Taylor, Jr., will preside at the memorial event.
The Labor Department is located at 200 Constitution Ave.
N.W. in Washington, D.C.
