The effects of existing and proposed family and medical leave policies will be explored in a Chicago public hearing on Monday, May 8, on the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Issues to be discussed at the hearing will include: existing and proposed mandatory and voluntary policies relating to family and temporary medical leave; potential costs, benefits and the impact on productivity, job creation and business growth of such policies; possible differences in costs, benefits and business impact based on business type and size; the impact of family and medical leave policies on employee benefits; alternative state enforcement; cost reduction methods used by employers; and related issues.

Persons interested in submitting statements may submit data, information or views to: Commission on Leave; U.S. Department of Labor; 200 Constitution Ave. NW; Room S-3002; Washington, D.C. 20210.
