Leah D. Daughtry has been designated acting assistant
secretary of labor for administration and management, replacing Patricia W.
Lattimore who retired today. Daughtry has been senior advisor to Labor
Secretary Alexis M. Herman since 1997.
As the acting assistant secretary, Daughtry will be
responsible for administrative policies and programs in human resources, safety
and health, budget and finance, procurement, information resources,
administrative services and overall compliance with nondiscrimination statutes.
"I am pleased that President Clinton has designated Leah
Daughtry to this important position at the Labor Department," Secretary Herman
said. "She has been an important member of my executive team since I became
Secretary and she brings unique talents to her new position."
As senior advisor, Daughtry played an important role in
advising the secretary on policy and program implementation. She represented
the secretary with constituents, members of Congress, and representatives of
labor, management and civic organizations. Prior to that appointment, she was
the first executive director of Man to Man/Sister to Sister, a community-based
non-profit human service agency. During the 1992 Clinton-Gore transition, she
served as a member of the senior management team at the U.S. Office of
Personnel Management.
