This is our second consecutive quarter of lower employment
costs. Today's report shows real employee compensation in balance with our
nation's strong growth in worker productivity. This economy continues to be a
winner for both business and labor.
Compensation costs rose 0.9 percent for the 3 months ending
in September 2000, with both wage and benefit costs rising more slowly than
they had over the previous two quarters.
