I continue to be pleased with the "core" Producer Price
Index for finished goods. As it has been since March of this year, the increase
was moderate in July. The "core" Producer Price Index for finished goods, which
excludes the volatile energy and food sectors, increased 0.1 percent in July,
compared to a decline of 0.1 percent in June, increases of 0.2 percent in May
and 0.1 percent in both March and April.
The Producer Price Index for finished goods showed signs of
moderation with no change in July, after registering a 0.6 percent increase in
June. Prices for finished energy goods fell 0.7 percent.
The Producer Price Index for intermediate goods increased
by 0.2 percent in July, after posting an increase of 0.9 percent in June.
Excluding food and energy, the increase in the "core" Producer Price Index for
intermediate goods was moderate.
The Producer Price Index for crude goods fell by 1.1
percent in July, after increasing by 5.8 percent in June. The "core" Producer
Price Index for crude goods fell by 1.8 percent in July, following declines in
the previous four months.
