Since the first quarter of 1999, productivity in the nonfarm business sector grew at an annual rate of 2.4 percent, also above the 1.3 percent average growth registered from 1973 to 1995.

Productivity growth remains strong in the manufacturing sector, increasing at 6.8 percent between the first quarters of 1999 and 2000. Growth between the fourth quarters of 1998 and 1999 was 6.5 percent.
