Inflation in producer prices moderated in January.
The Producer Price Index for finished goods was unchanged
in January, after two consecutive monthly increases. A drop in the price of
tobacco products primarily offset the increase in energy prices.
Excluding the energy and food sectors, the "core" Producer
Price Index fell 0.2 percent in January. Excluding tobacco, the "core" PPI was
unchanged in January.
