U.S. Department of Labor's Tonya Manning Wins Federal
100 Award
WASHINGTON-U.S. Department of Labor employee Tonya Manning will
accept the prestigious Federal 100 Award next week from Federal Computer Week
magazine for her outstanding work as chief of information security at the
department. The award will be presented at a dinner March 23 to 100 leaders who
made a difference in federal information technology during the 2004 calendar
year.
"Tonya Manning has done superior work in helping to ensure the security
of the department's computer and information systems by meeting and exceeding
federal guidelines," said Patrick Pizzella, assistant secretary of labor for
administration and management and Manning's supervisor. "Manning's contribution
to securing our information systems directly supported the department's recent
top score for the E-government component of the President's Management
Agenda-an honor in itself."
Under the direction of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao, who endorsed a
blueprint for transforming the department into a digital agency, Manning was
the catalyst for the successful implementation of security measures for all
department information-technology systems. Manning manages the areas of system
security and contingency planning, sensitive system identification, risk
management, computer security incident response, security awareness and
training, and system certification and accreditation.
Winners are nominated by Federal Computer Week readers and selected by
an independent panel of judges for their contributions to the development,
acquisition or management of federal IT.
