Statement of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao on
December State and Regional Unemployment Numbers
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao released the following statement on the December state and regional employment data released today:
“Sixteen months of job growth and 2.4 millions jobs created
signal that the economy is on track for continued growth.
“Today's numbers demonstrate that the jobs recovery continues to be broad
based. And over the past year, nonfarm employment increased in 48 states,
and the District of Columbia, and unemployment rates declined in 43
of 50 states.
“Due to the pro-growth economic policies of the Bush Administration, the
American people are now benefitting from low unemployment and continued
job growth in the majority of States across the county.”
