Far above market expectations, todays numbers of 308,000
new jobs are the largest employment growth in nearly four years. Job growth has
increased across all sectors, with construction seeing the largest job gains,
and is more evidence the economy has turned the corner and the nations
job market is getting stronger every month. The economy has now created jobs
each of the last seven months, with hundreds of thousands of Americans finding
new jobs. Also, the unemployment rate is well below the peak of 6.3% in June
and lower than the averages of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
Yet as the President has said many times, were not going
to stop working until every American who wants a job can find one. Thats
why he has proposed, and why Congress should pass, his new Jobs for the
21st Century initiative, which will prepare workers for good-paying
positions in high-growth fields that are creating the most new jobs.
