Statement of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao
On November Unemployment Numbers
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao
released the following statement on the November unemployment numbers released
today:
“As we look back over 2004, our economy has produced an average of 185,000
jobs each month despite the spike in oil prices,” said U.S. Secretary
of Labor Elaine L. Chao. “More Americans are working than ever before
and employment in construction and financial services is at an all time
high.”
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that 112,000 new payroll
jobs were created in November, bringing the total number of jobs created
in the last fifteen months to more than 2.4 million. The unemployment
rate in November fell to 5.4% while the labor force participation rate
increased to 66.1 percent.
