Statement of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao on
October State and Regional Unemployment Numbers
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao
released the following statement on the October state and regional employment
data released today:
“We've now seen 14 straight months of job creation and nearly 2.4 million
new jobs created. The jobs recovery continues to be strong and broad based.
Over the last year, the unemployment rate has declined in 42 states, while
non-farm employment increased in 47 states and the District of Columbia.
“These positive numbers show that the President's steady, consistent
economic policies are improving the lives of America's working families.
To continue this progress, it is imperative that Congress act on the President's
proposals to further strengthen our economy through tort reform, energy
independence, health insurance access for small businesses and permanent
tax relief for working families.”
