Statement of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao
On National Employer Support of the Guard
And Reserve Week
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao released the following statement on National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week:
“The men and women of the National Guard and Reserve have always been ready to defend our freedoms whenever our nation has called upon them. Today, Guard and Reserve members serve their country with honor in the War on Terror.
“It is an honor and a privilege to support these brave men and women and their families by ensuring that their civilian jobs and benefits will be waiting for them when they return home. Our nation’s employers have been overwhelmingly supportive of their Guard and Reserve employees. Many are not only complying with but exceeding the letter and spirit of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act of 1994, the law that protects service members’ jobs and benefits.
“During this week, therefore, let us call to mind the tremendous debt of gratitude that we owe the brave men and women of the National Guard and Reserve and call upon all employers to recommitment themselves to honoring their citizen-soldier employees.”
