News Release OPA News Release: [06/25/2004] Third Class of MBA Fellows Arrives at Labor DepartmentWASHINGTONU.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Steven Law this week welcomed the third class of MBA Fellows to the Department of Labors (DOLs) workforce. This third class of 15 business school graduates embarks on an intensive two-year training and development program designed to provide them with the competencies needed for future leadership positions. Secretary Elaine L. Chao (a Harvard Business School graduate) launched DOLs MBA Fellows program in June 2002. Our effort to recruit MBAs is guided by the Presidents call for a more results-oriented government and intended to address a looming management gap, said Secretary Chao. MBAs are trained in key management skills that are valuable in the changing world of public administration. The programs cornerstone is an intensive developmental program in which participants rotate through assignments among various agencies and regions within the departments organizational structure. Twenty-five current Fellows are in the midst of their two-year rotational assignments. These assignments provide participants invaluable experience working on projects addressing the Presidents Management Agenda and analyzing processes within various DOL agencies. In the two years since launching the MBA Outreach effort, DOL has increased the number of MBAs from 130 to 245. Over 600 applicants applied for the third class of MBA Fellows using an on-line application process for the first time. The 15 selected Fellows represent 14 different schools from across the country. The third class of MBA Fellows reported to the Department of Labor on June 21, 2004, to begin a one-week orientation prior to their first assignments. Please check the DOL website at www.jobs.dol.gov for information on future classes of MBA Fellows and other job opportunities at DOL. # # # _________________________________________________________________ |
