U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Discusses Job
Growth, Training with Maine Workers, Employers, Educators
High Growth Job Training
Initiative Will Prepare Workers for Well-Paying Jobs
BANGOR, Me.U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao today met
with workers, employers and educators at Husson College to discuss the
strengthening economy and how the Departments new High Growth Job
Training Initiative can help workers find and prepare for good jobs in growing
industries.
With new jobs created in each of the past five months, third
quarter economic growth at its highest level in nearly 20 years and record
productivity boosting wages, it is clear that the Presidents economic
policies are working, Chao said. However, this Administration won't rest
until every worker who wants a job can find one. Thats why weve
launched the High Growth Job Training Initiativeto help workers build the
skills needed for a secure economic future
The High Growth Job Training Initiative addresses the fact that
industries such as health services, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing
are leading the current jobs recovery, and that many workers need new skills to
take advantage of opportunities in these industries. Through this initiative,
the Department of Labor is collaborating with employers and educators from
technical and community colleges to help workers get the training they need to
find jobs in these expanding fields.
We are in Maine today to hear from workers, employers and
educators about how Department of Labor programs can better serve their needs.
By more closely aligning our training programs with the skills in demand, we
can help workers more quickly find good-paying jobs. said Secretary
Chao.
