Statement of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao on Strongest
Economic Growth Since 1984
WASHINGTONU.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today
issued the following statement on the third-quarter Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) growth of 7.2 percent, the strongest economic growth in 19 years:
Todays news of strong economic growth is yet another sign
that the Presidents Jobs and Growth plan is having a very real and
positive effect on all Americans. This robust economic growth, along with
todays news that the four-week moving average of first-time unemployment
claims dropped to an eight-month low, and the most recent employment report
that showed 57,000 new jobs were created in September, should give workers
confidence that the future is bright and new jobs are being created every
day.
Still, the President and I will not rest until every American who
wants a job can find one. More jobs can be created if Congress acts on the
Presidents Six-Point Plan for the Economy, which will make health
insurance more affordable, reduce the lawsuit burden on the economy and allow
employers and workers to plan for the future by making tax relief
permanent.
