Statement of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao on September
Unemployment Numbers
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao issued the
following statement on the September unemployment numbers released today:
“The increase of 57,000 new jobs is positive news for
America’s workers and is a sign that the President’s Jobs and Growth
Act is having a positive impact on the economy. New jobs are being created in
professional and business services, construction and other skilled trades,
motor vehicle and parts dealers, and healthcare and education. The President
and I will not rest until every American who wants a job can find one. More
jobs can be created if Congress acts on the President’s Six-Point Plan for
the Economy, which will make health insurance more affordable, reduce the
lawsuit burden on the economy and allow employers and workers to plan for the
future by making tax relief permanent.”
