Statement of U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao on
the West Coast Ports Settlement
WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao made the
following statement on the settlement reached today in the West Coast Ports
dispute:
“We are delighted the parties reached this historic agreement
during the cooling off period established by President Bush. I commend the
Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Peter Hurtgen, and
both parties for achieving this resolution which is vital to our national
economy.
