U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Commends Teamsters and UPS on
Reaching National Contract Agreement
WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today
publicly commended the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the United
Parcel Service on reaching an agreement on a national contract.
“The Teamsters and UPS have done an excellent job in negotiating
this contract, and both parties will benefit greatly from this new
agreement,” said Chao. “When parties come together in good faith, the
collective bargaining process can be a vehicle for resolving very difficult
issues in a manner that is acceptable to all parties.”
The current contract was set to expire July 31st. The new
contract proposal must be formally approved by approximately 230,000
rank-and-file Teamster members within the next few weeks.
