CHAO WELCOMES HISPANIC FEDERAL EXECUTIVES Labor Secretary Commits
To Recruitment Plan
WASHINGTONU.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao addressed the
participants of the National Association of Hispanic Federal Executives (NAHFE)
during their fourth Hispanic Federal Executive Summit hosted by the
department.
Your future is the nations future and the Department of
Labor has a tremendous stake in seeing that the entire Hispanic community
remains vibrant and prosperous and an integral part of the U.S.
workforce, Chao said.
During her speech, Chao reaffirmed the departments commitment to
the Office of Personnel Managements nine-point plan to bring more
Hispanic Americans into the federal workforce. Chao also encouraged internships
and partnerships with major organizations like the Hispanic Association of
Colleges and Universities.
Currently, the Department of Labor is among the top five executive
departments with Hispanic representation and above the federal workforce, which
is 6.6 percent.
The NAHFE was established in July 1980 by management-level Hispanic
Federal employees as a non-profit, tax-exempt and non-partisan national
organization. For the past 21 years, NAHFE has pro-actively promoted career
opportunities for qualified Hispanics in the federal executive grade levels and
in the senior executive service policy-making positions.
