DEPARTMENT OF LABOR EXCEEDS SET GOALS Procurement From Women-Owned
Business Reaches All Time High
WASHINGTON-U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced that
the Department of Labor reached the highest levels of procurement ever from
women-owned businesses during Fiscal Year 2001.
"The Department of Labor depends on small and women-owned businesses to
provide excellent service and goods," said Chao. "That is why during Fiscal
Year 2001 the department had the highest utilization of women-owned businesses
ever."
During Fiscal Year 2001, the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business
Utilization (OSDBU), under the Office of Small Business Programs, exceeded the
legislatively mandated goals for utilization and procurement of women owned
businesses. Legislatively mandated goals were set at 5 percent, that goal was
exceeded at the Department of Labor by 0.3 percent.
The Office of Small Business Programs oversees the department's small
business procurement activities, provides outreach to small businesses and
oversight of the department's regulatory compliance assistance responsibilities
under the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act of 1996. The
Office of Small Business Programs also manages Executive Order initiatives for
minority colleges and universities and other key populations, and provides
administrative oversight of the department's advisory committees. The Office of
Small Business Programs resides in the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Labor.
