Missouri Receives National Emergency
Grant U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Awards Money For Re-employment
Training
WASHINGTON U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today
announced a National Emergency Grant of $1.3 million to aid workers laid off
from Excel Corporation, Honeywell Corporation/FRAM Division and Holmes
Group/Rival Division.
This National Emergency Grant reflects the administrations
commitment to every American, and our goal to ensure that each laid-off worker
receives the training and skills they need to find a new job, Chao said.
This money will enable Missouri to expand job training programs and help
the dislocated workers.
The National Emergency Grant will provide re-employment assistance for
approximately 347 workers who have lost their jobs or are scheduled to lose
their jobs over the next year. The Missouri Department of Economic Development,
Division of Workforce Development will be the grantee and the West Central
Region Workforce Development Board in Sedalia, will be the project operator.
The money will supplement existing re-employment programs offered by the
state. Services include: peer counseling, job search assistance, occupational
skills training, on-the-job training, job placement and supportive services.
