National Emergency Grant Aids Workers
In Georgia U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao Awards Money For
Re-employment Training
WASHINGTON U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today
announced a National Emergency Grant of $584,700 to aid workers laid off as a
result of the closures of Wilkins Industry, Inc., in McRae, and Amercord, Inc.,
in Lumber City, Ga.
It is important that we take steps to ensure that laid off workers
receive the training necessary to find re-employ, Chao said. The
National Emergency Grant money will help retrain workers and restore economic
confidence.
The National Emergency Grant will provide re-employment assistance for
approximately 110 dislocated workers. The Job Training Unlimited, Inc., the
local Workforce Investment Act board in Claxton, will operate the project.
The money will supplement existing re-employment programs offered by the
state.Services include: career planning, occupational training, pre-vocational
services, case management, follow-up services, skills upgrading, adult
education, literacy, job readiness training and supportive services.
