The Department of Labor today released a compendium of the
papers presented at last fall's symposium, Changes in China's Labor Market:
Implications for the Future. The syposium was co-sponsored by the department's
Bureau of Internation Labor Affairs and the State Department's Bureau of
Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.
The public forum, held Sept. 22, 1995, focused on the
situations of workers and employers in China. Topics included labor force
participation of women, labor migration, the declining role of state
enterprises as employers and the role of the state trade union. There were also
discussions on wage trends, reemployment policies and the state social safety
net. Representatives of labor, business and academia made the
presentations.
