SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATAIn the week ending Feb. 13, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 288,000, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 284,000. The 4-week moving average was 292,000, a decrease of 6,750 from the previous week's revised average of 298,750. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Feb. 6, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Feb. 6 was 2,262,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,274,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,270,750, an increase of 4,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,266,500. UNADJUSTED DATAThe advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 309,133 in the week ending Feb. 13, a decrease of 35,490 from the previous week. There were 328,354 initial claims in the comparable week in 1998. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.3 percent during the week ending Feb. 6, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,760,091, a decrease of 94,256 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.3 percent and the volume was 2,719,452. Extended benefits were available in Puerto Rico during the week ending Jan. 30. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,664 in the week ending Feb. 6, an increase of 53 from the prior week. There were 1,535 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 125 from the preceding week. There were 21,523 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Jan. 30, an increase of 1,671 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 16,825, a decrease of 62 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Jan. 30 were in Alaska (7.0 percent), Puerto Rico (6.6), Rhode Island (4.3), Idaho (4.1), West Virginia (3.9), Washington (3.8), Pennsylvania (3.7), Oregon (3.6), California (3.3), and Montana (3.3). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Feb. 6 were in California (+11,537), Texas (+995), Washington (+374), Kentucky (+324), and Wisconsin (+277), while the largest decreases were in Georgia (-2,874), Pennsylvania (-1,839), Tennessee (-1,782), Rhode Island (-1,107), and Maine (-1,025).
