The U.S. Labor Department is granting Maine $1,718,750 to
help 673 state employees who lost their jobs due to restructuring and
downsizing.
"In this era of change it is imperative that we provide the
necessary training, retraining and support services for Americans who suddenly
find themselves without jobs," said Labor Secretary Robert B. Reich. "This
country needs the talents and skills of all its workers."
The grant, authorized under the Job Training Partnership
Act, will provide a number of services including assessment, job search and
placement assistance and job training. Supportive services such as
transportation and dependent care assistance, emergency medical care, housing,
clothing, tools and equipment will also be available.
