SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov. 18, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 371,000, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 370,000. The 4-week moving average was 372,250, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week's revised average of 369,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent for the week ending Nov. 11, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.4 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 11, was 2,648,000, a decrease of 26,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,674,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,655,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,658,000.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 415,197 in the week ending Nov. 18, an increase of 81,297 from the previous week. There were 366,719 initial claims in the comparable week in 1994.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent during the week ending Nov. 11, an increase of 0.3 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,417,172, an increase of 261,790 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.1 percent and the volume was 2,312,701.

Extended benefits were available in Puerto Rico during the week ending Nov. 4.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,651 in the week ending Nov. 11, a decrease of 296 from the prior week. There were 2,188 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 320 from the preceding week.

There were 30,275 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Nov. 4, a decrease of 7,386 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 26,274, a decrease of 1,916 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Nov. 4 were in Puerto Rico (5.9 percent), Alaska (4.8), Washington (4.0), California (3.2), Rhode Island (3.2), Oregon (2.9), Hawaii (2.7), Pennsylvania (2.7), New York (2.6), Arkansas (2.4), and Connecticut (2.4).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 4 were in North Carolina (+3,125), New York (+2,817), Texas (+1,002), Oklahoma (+978), and Delaware (+522), while the largest decreases were in California (-5,824), Ohio (-4,591), Washington (-4,058), Illinois (-3,585), and Tennessee (-3,108).
