SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov. 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 372,000, a decrease of 9,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 381,000. The 4-week moving average was 369,500, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week's revised average of 366,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent for the week ending Nov. 4, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.4 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 4 was 2,667,000, a decrease of 15,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,682,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,658,250, an increase of 1,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,657,000.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 335,606 in the week ending Nov. 11, a decrease of 47,239 from the previous week. There were 298,030 initial claims in the comparable week in 1994.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the week ending Nov. 4, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,149,642, a decrease of 113,952 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.9 percent and the volume was 2,071,248.

Extended benefits were available in Puerto Rico during the week ending Oct. 28.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,939 in the week ending Nov. 4, an increase of 593 from the prior week. There were 2,508 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 310 from the preceding week.

There were 37,802 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 28, an increase of 4,140 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 28,235, a decrease of 27 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 28 were in Puerto Rico (6.9 percent), Alaska (4.9), Washington (3.8), California (3.4), Rhode Island (3.1), Hawaii (2.9), New Jersey (2.8), Oregon (2.8), Pennsylvania (2.8), and Arkansas (2.6).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 4 were in California (+6,727), Ohio (+5,777), Missouri (+3,941), Illinois (+3,874), and Pennsylvania (+3,592), while the largest decreases were in Louisiana (-4,151), Michigan (-910), Delaware (-517), Kansas (-251), and North Carolina (-189).
