SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov. 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 375,000, an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 366,000. The 4-week moving average was 364,500, an increase of 4,750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 359,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent for the week ending Oct. 28, unchanged from the prior week's revised rate of 2.4 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Oct. 28 was 2,679,000, an increase of 59,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,620,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,655,250, an increase of 22,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,633,250.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 377,099 in the week ending Nov. 4, an increase of 45,147 from the previous week. There were 338,561 initial claims in the comparable week in 1994.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.0 percent during the week ending Oct. 28, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,261,438, an increase of 81,936 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.0 percent and the volume was 2,153,143.

Extended benefits were available in Puerto Rico during the week ending Oct. 21.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,343 in the week ending Oct. 28, a decrease of 555 from the prior week. There were 2,196 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 102 from the preceding week.

There were 33,669 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 21, a decrease of 3,250 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 28,278, a decrease of 550 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 21 were in Puerto Rico (7.3 percent), Alaska (4.1), Washington (3.5), California (3.3), Rhode Island (3.2), Hawaii (2.8), New Jersey (2.7), Oregon (2.7), Pennsylvania (2.7), Connecticut (2.5), and New York (2.5).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Oct. 28 were in Louisiana (+5,007), Washington (+2,954), Kentucky (+2,780), Mississippi (+2,142), and Kansas (+2,033), while the largest decreases were in California (-3,830), Georgia (-2,106), Florida (-2,011), Missouri (-1,219), and New York (-772).
