SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Feb. 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 338,000, an increase of 20,000 from the previous week's unrevised figure of 318,000. The 4-week moving average was 326,750, a decrease of 250 from the previous week's unrevised average of 327,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.3 percent for the week ending Feb. 4, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.3 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Feb. 4 was 2,521,000, an increase of 7,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,514,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,513,000, an increase of 21,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,492,000.

UNADJUSTED DATA

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 377,901 in the week ending Feb. 11, a decrease of 4,480 from the previous week. There were 385,594 initial claims in the comparable week in 1994.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.9 percent during the week ending Feb. 4, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,113,369, a decrease of 42,138 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 3.2 percent and the volume was 3,342,851.

Extended benefits were available in Puerto Rico during the week ending Jan. 28.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,432 in the week ending Feb. 4, a decrease of 282 from the prior week. There were 2,691 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 113 from the preceding week.

There were 35,867 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits during the week ending Jan. 28, a decrease of 4,283 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 36,167, a decrease of 1,602 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Jan. 28 were in Alaska (8.1 percent), Puerto Rico (6.6), Rhode Island (6.4), Idaho (5.1), Washington (4.9), Montana (4.8), California (4.4), Maine (4.3), Pennsylvania (4.3), and West Virginia (4.2).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Feb. 4 were in California (+3,029), Oregon (+892), South Carolina (+892), Nevada (+474), and Idaho (+457), while the largest decreases were in New York (-2,506), Michigan (-2,166), Pennsylvania (-2,032), Missouri (-1,333), and Texas (-1,256).
