U.S. Labor Secretary Alexis Herman today announced during a
satellite town hall meeting on One-Stop Centers hosted by the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce that the Department of Labor will be unveiling a new Workforce Tool
Kit for employers. The Workforce Tool Kit, is designed to guide employers to
information and services for expanding, training, and restructuring their
workforce -- as well as financing the changes needed to keep their workforce
skilled and ready for the challenges of the 21st Century's global economy.
"It can be difficult to plan for and react immediately to
constantly changing demands of the marketplace if good information on quality
employment and training services is not readily available," stated Secretary of
Labor Alexis M. Herman. "The Workforce Tool Kit is an employer's guide to
gaining access to the resources available through America's Workforce Network.
America's Workforce Network (AWN) is the name of our
nation's new partnership between federal, state and local governments, the
private sector, educational institutions, and community- and faith-based
organizations to provide employment and training services. As the senior
partner in America's Workforce Network, the Department of Labor will work
tirelessly to develop a more streamlined and flexible delivery system and
establish the partnerships required to build a comprehensive workforce
investment system rather than individual, publicly- funded programs and their
various service components.
Because members of America's Workforce Network recognize
that business needs often fluctuate, they provide access to a full range of
services to meet employers' workforce needs -- usually at little or no cost.
The Workforce Tool Kit first makes employers aware of the services available to
them and then directs them to these services through their local One Stop
Career Center or other convenient sources such as the National Toll Free Help
Line (1-877-US2-JOBS) and the Internet via www.doleta.gov.
Distribution of the Workforce Tool Kit is taking place in
cooperation with a number of employer, labor, and intergovernmental
organizations. Through these channels, the Department of Labor will ensure that
the Workforce Tool Kit reaches as many employers as possible.
