The working groups of the Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and
Pension Benefit Plans will hold public meetings on July 16 and 17 in Room
N-5437 A&B, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue, N.W.,
Washington, D.C. 20210.
On July 16, an all-day open meeting by the Working Group studying Soft
Dollar Arrangements and Commission Recapture will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon
and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The purpose is for the working group members to take
testimony from the financial community on soft dollar and directed brokerage
practices.
On July 17, open meetings will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 1
to 3:30 p.m. At the morning meeting the Working Group Studying Employer Assets
in ERISA Employer-Sponsored Plans will seek testimony from persons not in favor
of allowing employer securities as significant plan assets of defined
contribution plans and discuss other assets held by plans such as real estate
leased to the plan sponsor. At the afternoon meeting, the Working Group on
Studying the Merits of Defined Contribution vs. Defined Benefit Plans will take
testimony on the trends in the formation of defined benefit plans from the
perspective of organized labor.
Individuals or organizations wishing to address the council should
submit 20 copies of a written statement before July 7 to Sharon Morrissey,
executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, U.S. Department of Labor, Suite
N-5677, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Oral presentations
are limited to 10 minutes, but witnesses may submit an extended statement for
the record.
Members of the public who do not wish to testify may submit 20 copies of
their statement to the above address. Individuals with disabilities who need
special accommodations should also contact the department by July 7 at the
address above.
The Advisory Council is a bipartisan group of 15 members appointed by
the Secretary of Labor to represent a wide range of interests in the employee
benefit area.
The council advises and makes recommendations to the secretary on the
administration of ERISA.
