The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension
Benefit Plans will hold public meetings on June 18 and 19 in Room N-3437
C&D in the Frances Perkins Building, U.S. Department of Labor, 200
Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.
On June 18 the Working Groups on Service Providers will
meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon to begin taking testimony on the need to offer
assistance to plans in determining how best to select and monitor service
providers. From 1 to 3:30 p.m., the Working Group on Protections for Benefit
Plan Participants will meet to begin taking testimony on protection issues
relating to plan assets.
On June 19 the Working Group on the Impact of Alternative
Tax Proposals on ERISA Employer-Sponsored Plans will hold two sessions from
9:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The purpose of both meetings is to
take extensive testimony on the various tax reform proposals currently before
Congress and the impact they may have on employer-sponsored plans, with the
primary focus being on retirement plans.
Following the all-day working group meeting on June 19,
the full Council will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to discuss progress being
made by the three working groups.
Individuals or organizations wishing to address the
council should submit 20 copies before May 28 to Sharon Morrissey, acting
executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, U.S. Department of Labor, Suite
N-5677, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Oral presentations
are limited to 10 minutes but witnesses may submit an extended statement for
the record.
Members of the public who do not wish to testify may
submit 20 copies of their statement to the above address. Individuals with
disabilities who need special accommodations should also contact the department
by May 28 at the address above.
The advisory council is a bipartisan group of 15 members
appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent a wide range of interests in
the employee benefit area. The council advises and makes recommendations to the
Secretary on the administration of ERISA.
