ERISA ADVISORY COUNCIL TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER

The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans and its work groups will hold public meetings Sept. 11-13 at the U. S. Department of Labor. The meetings will convene in the Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave., N. W., Washington, D. C.

The defined contribution adequacy work group will convene in room S-3215 A-B at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11 and Wednesday, Sept. 13 to hear testimony on various policies surrounding retirement income adequacy.

The pension education work group will meet in room 3215 A-B at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11 and will reconvene there at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 to discuss the necessity of better educating the public to save for retirement and explore successful education programs.

The real estate investment work group will convene in room S-3215 A-B at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12 to concentrate on the regulatory issues that affect real estate investments for pension funds and to take testimony from witnesses addressing this topic.

The full council will meet in room S-2508 at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13 to receive status reports of the council's 1995 work groups and to invite public comment on any aspect of the administration of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Individuals or organizations wishing to address the council should submit a written request before Sept. 1 to Linda R. Jackson, acting executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, U. S. Department of Labor, Room N5677, 200 Constitution Ave., N. W. Washington, D. C. 20210. Oral presentations are limited to 10 minutes, but witnesses may submit an extended statement for the record.

Members of the public who do not wish to testify may submit 20 copies of their statement to the above address.

The advisory council is a bipartisan group of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent a wide range of interests in the employee benefits area. The council advises and makes recommendations to the Secretary on the administration of ERISA.
