This is Jedd Medefind, Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, of the U.S. Department of Labor.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced $4 million dollars in grants to 55 faith-based and community organizations in 32 states. These organizations were chosen to help hard-to-serve populations prepare for and succeed in employment opportunities.

These "Grassroots" grants are an invaluable part of the Department of Labor's efforts to partner its existing programs with effective community and faith-based organizations across the country. The winners of these very competitive grants represent some of America's best local community and faith-based organizations.

The Department of Labor is very pleased to work with these organizations to help people get back on their feet and in good jobs. This is what the President's Faith-Based and Community Initiative is all about — believing that we can always do better for our neighbors in need when we work together with every willing partner."
