Abstract: The OIG's audit reports are both financial and performance reviews of the efficiency and effectiveness of DOL programs and agencies. Audit reports contain the data collected on the specific program; the analysis based upon the data; and recommendations for program improvement based upon the analysis. DOL OIG audit priorities are established based on statutory and regulatory requirements; the sensitivity of the organization, program, activity or function, including susceptibility to fraud, waste and abuse.

Purpose: The audit reports summarize the OIG's findings and recommendations resulting from the audits. The audit reports are viewed as an opportunity for an objective, skilled and impartial review of program operations which can result in suggestions for improvement. In most instances, implementing audit recommendations can lead to better program operations and resource savings.

Agency Program: The OIG is an independent, objective entity in the Department of Labor (DOL) charged with promoting program efficiency, and preventing fraud, waste and abuse in the Department's programs and operations. Under the IG Act, the OIG has direct reporting responsibilities to both the Secretary and the Congress.
