HIV/AIDS

Responding to the nation's serious and ongoing domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic requires an inclusive, coordinated approach drawing upon resources from a broad spectrum of government functions and services. Employment is one critical piece of this response.

Reflecting this, DOL is one of six Federal agencies responsible for implementing the National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States. Released by President Obama in July 2010, this Strategy outlines priorities and action steps for responding to HIV/AIDS within the U.S. ODEP is one of several DOL agencies participating in carrying out DOL's role under the National HIV/AIDS Strategy.

ALL of the policies and practices that ODEP develops and influences to increase the employment of people with disabilities include people living with HIV/AIDS. However, ODEP has also dedicated some specific focus to this community, including convening a HIV/AIDS Roundtable on April 8th to explore ideas about improving employment opportunities and outcomes and reducing stigma and discrimination for people living with HIV/AIDS.
