Image of T. Alan Hurwitz, Ed. D., CEO and Dean, National Technical Institute for the DeafThe National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) is one of eight colleges of the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York state. NTID’s career-focused degree programs prepare deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals for careers in high-demand technical fields. Nearly 92 percent of the institute’s graduates entering the workforce have found employment in business, industry, government, education and other professional fields. Graduates include engineers working to reconstruct levees in New Orleans, vice presidents at telecommunications companies, financial analysts for Fortune 500 companies, executive directors of nonprofit organizations, and intelligence experts at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In 2006, the Secretary of Labor and ODEP recognized NTID with a New Freedom Initiative Award for demonstrating exemplary and innovative efforts in furthering the employment and workplace environment for people with disabilities.
