2001 High School/High Tech Start-Up Grant Awardees A total of $600,000 has been awarded to 12 organizations to develop demonstration High School/High Tech (HS/HT) program sites that would align the HS/HT program with the Workforce Investment Act's (WIA's) youth-related programs. The grants, to organizations that provide youth services, will provide start-up funds for new programs modeled on the national High School/High Tech series of programs that provide young people with disabilities an opportunity to explore their interest in technology-related careers. These locally directed and supported programs serve either in-school or out-of-school youth with disabilities in a year-long program of corporate site visits, mentoring, job shadowing guest speakers, after school activities and paid summer internships. Each grant is awarded for a one-year period, with one option year, subject to the availability of funds.
