Expert Strategy Meeting

In 2009, the overall unemployment rate for people with a disability was 14.5 percent, significantly higher than the rate for those with no disability (9.0 percent). In addition, a large proportion of those with a disability — about 8 in 10 — were not in the labor force at all, compared with 3 in 10 of those with no disability.

In response to this and to support the Add Us In initiative, ODEP conducted an Add Us In National Expert Strategy Meeting to facilitate specific discussion on innovative models and strategies to increase the capacity within minority business entities for integrated employment opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities.

Specific objectives included learning from other researchers, providers, employment professionals, and community members about potentially effective policies and strategies addressing the needs of these populations and how these successes can be leveraged to support current Add Us In grant activities. This was an invitation-only event for approximately 50 participants.
