Washington, D.C. 20001
I'm delighted to invite you to the Add Us In Expert Strategy Meeting to be held in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL's) Frances Perkins Building on February 23, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Add Us In, an initiative sponsored by DOL's Office of Disability Employment Policy, identifies and develops strategies to increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the business community.
Small business is the engine of economic growth in the United States and the growth in small businesses presents an increasingly diverse profile. These diverse businesses must be engaged in order for employment opportunities for people with disabilities to increase. The Add Us In Expert Strategy Meeting will facilitate a discussion on innovative models and strategies that can increase the capacity of these businesses to improve employment opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. Your expertise is being sought to:
- Leverage the knowledge from business owners, researchers, employment professionals, and community members to understand the needs of these businesses;
- Identify effective strategies to address the needs of both businesses and individuals within their communities; and
- Establish cross-system networks to improve communication and collaboration between the business, diversity and disability sectors.
Your individual ideas will help shape the national aspects of the Add Us In initiative and assist the four regional Add Us In consortia in connecting small businesses with the untapped talent of people with disabilities. The consortia are led by the University of Missouri-Kansas City (Kansas City, Mo.); the Community Partners-Integrated Recovery Network (Los Angeles, Calif.); the Workplace Inc. (Bridgeport, Conn.); and the University of Oklahoma (Norman, Okla.).
This is an invitation-only event for approximately 50 participants, so please register for this event at your earliest convenience at https://www.disability.gov/AUIregistration.
