Turnkey Solutions for Your Staff Training? Just Ask JAN!

Businesses large and small know the value of staff training and professional development. In addition to being a value-added employee perk, such programs educate and build the skills of workers, empowering them to better deliver on the job.

But, despite the proven benefits, some businesses struggle in their ability to provide professional development, often citing cost concerns or a lack of easily accessible training content. If this describes your organization, the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is at your service with some convenient training solutions.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), JAN is the leading source of free, expert and confidential guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues. And one of JAN's best kept secrets is a series of ready-to-deliver training modules on a variety of disability-related topics. The series, entitled "Just In Time," can be used to educate your staff members with hiring and managerial responsibilities about issues related to applicants and employees with disabilities.

The beauty of these webcast-style training modules is that they are free of charge and ready to download and screen for your employees right now. They are also fully accessible — featuring visual slides and audio narration — and include accompanying handouts and other supporting materials. The latest "Just In Time" training module addresses workplace ergonomics and how implementing appropriate ergonomic principles can help employers satisfy their accommodation obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Other modules in the series explore the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and best practices for implementing assistive technology in the workplace. All of these trainings make use of real-life examples from JAN’s case study library and can be viewed by employees individually at their computers or incorporated into larger group training events.
