June 9, 2010 Department of Labor H-2B Visa Program
Dear Congressional Staff:
As part of the Department of Labor's commitment to openness and public input, DOL invites you to meet with the H2B regulatory team to learn more about the H2B program and to share your ideas on how the program can be improved.
In April, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis announced that as part of its semiannual agenda for regulations, the Department of Labor will review regulations pertaining to the H-2B Temporary Nonagricultural Worker Program. The Department believes there are insufficient worker protections in the current program. The Department is considering several changes, such as: a) ensuring that only those employers who demonstrate a temporary need for foreign workers will have access to the H-2B program, b) increasing the role of State Workforce Agencies in the recruitment process, and c) ensuring that the wage determination methodology for the program is not adversely affecting wages across industries. See the attached Fact Sheet for more information.
The listening session is scheduled for Monday, June 14, 2010, at 1pm in Dirksen 430.
