May 24, 2010 National Emergency Grant for Rhode Island
Dear Rhode Island Delegation:
Here is information about a National Emergency Grant (NEG) that is being awarded to your state to create about 50 temporary jobs for eligible dislocated workers to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts as a result of the severe storms and flooding.
Description of NEG
- The U.S. Department of Labor is awarding $117,968 to the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training. The emergency funds will be used to provide temporary employment on projects to assist with clean-up, demolition, repair, renovation, and reconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities and lands within the affected communities. In addition, these funds may be used to perform work on the homes of economically disadvantaged individuals who are eligible for the Federally-funded weatherization program, with priority given to services for the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
- The geographic areas covered by this funding are: The counties of Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington
