April 15, 2010 National Emergency Grant - Oregon
Dear Oregon Delegation:
Here is information about a National Emergency Grant (NEG) that is being awarded to the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development to serve about 79 of the 94 workers affected by the closure of Weyerhaeuser Company's Warrenton Sawmill (Weyerhaeuser), located in Warrenton.
Description of Oregon NEG
- DOL is granting funding in the amount of $465,204 to be funded by resources made available for NEGs under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) of 2009. This dual enrollment project will provide these dislocated workers with access to “wrap-around” and supportive services that are not available through the TAA program. Please note that a petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) filed on behalf of the workers from Weyerhaeuser was certified by the Department of Labor in late March.
- The geographic areas covered by this funding are: Clatsop County
- Project Operator: Oregon Consortium and Oregon Workforce Alliance
Let me know if you need more information. Feel free to contact Shalee Hodgson with the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development at (503) 947-2409, if you have specific questions about how the funds will be distributed.
