U.S. Department of Labor's Alternative Fuel Vehicle
Acquisition and Fuel Use Report for Fiscal Year 2014

February 2015

Outcome:

As indicated by the Federal Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST) Table 1 below, the Department of Labor (DOL) exceeded the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct) 75 percent goal for FY 2014 with an EPAct compliance percentage of 168 percent.

DOL's Approach to Compliance with the EPAct and Executive Orders 13423 and 13514:

To meet EPAct and Executive Order (E.O.) 13423 and 13514 requirements, the Department mandates that a minimum of 75 percent of its new light-duty vehicle acquisitions be Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) and through policy, guidance and meetings with component agency heads, requires agencies to acquire AFVs, decrease petroleum consumption by the 2 percent per year, and increase non-petroleum-based fuel usage by 10 percent.

DOL AFV Acquisitions for FY 2014:

Table 1 shows the number and types of FY 2014 DOL vehicle acquisitions. DOL acquired 655 light-duty and/or medium duty passenger vehicles, of which 364 were covered by EPAct and for which DOL received 603 Total EPAct Credits.

Summary:

DOL continues to reduce the consumption of petroleum through more fuel efficient vehicles and increased use of alternative fuels. In addition, DOL has implemented an internal policy establishing AFVs as the "vehicles of choice" for new acquisitions and directs DOL agencies to select the smallest and most fuel efficient vehicles that meet mission requirements.
