Mine Safety and
Health Administration (MSHA)

The agency inspects mines and tunnels, promotes technological initiatives designed to remove the danger incurred while mining and sponsors continuing education programs for industry workers. Available Positions
Mining/Training Assistant, GS-1702-5, MSHA-01-SUM
Position Brief: This position is located at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, West Virginia. The Mining/Training Technician works in the Department of Instructional Services, Branch of Mining Technology. The technician works with the training instructors for developmental experiences, on-the-job training and the performance of routine, simple assignments in support of designated staff members. Assists in the set-up and conduct of underground laboratory exercises in the mine simulation laboratory in various technical courses including ventilation, fire control, and mine emergencies. Assists in construction in the mine simulation laboratory of simulated ventilation controls such as stoppings, overcasts, and line curtains.
Background Needed: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or three years' general experience, one of which was equivalent to at least a GS-4 level or a combination of experience and education. Mining engineering student preferred.
Library Technician, GS-1411-4/5, MSHA-02-SUM
Position Brief: This position is located at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, West Virginia. The library technician works in the Technical Information Center and Library. The position includes inputting data in Microsoft Access database, bar-coding of book collection, inputting and retrieving information relative to mine safety and health, and formatting or reformatting information in Microsoft Word..
Background Needed: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or three years' general experience, one of which was equivalent to at least a GS-4 level or a combination of experience and education. Familiarity with Microsoft Access and Microsoft Word. Library science degree student preferred.
Office Automation Assistant, GS-303-5/6, MSHA-03-SUM
Position Brief:This position is located at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, West Virginia. The Office Automation Assistant works in the Department of Instructional Services. This position provides technical support to professional staff members by assisting in compiling and preparation of training course materials into the model course format. Prepares, organizes, scans and reformats documents, manuals, and presentations to be used by Academy instructors.
Background Needed: Proficiency in Access, Excel, Microsoft Word, Visio and AutoCAD preferred. Information Technology student preferred
Office of the
Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM)
All positions are located at the Frances Perkins Building.
The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management provides internal administrative leadership for the Department in areas such as financial planning, budget formulation, human resources, enforcement of equal opportunity, statutes, contracting and grant management, information systems development and internal health and safety program.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration assures as much as possible that all American workers return from work healthy and uninjured.
