Bureau of Labor
Statistics
(BLS)
Positions are
located at the Postal Square Building.
Predicting the nation's occupational outlook, counting the monthly unemployment figures, and following the fluctuations in the rate of inflation, are just a few of the functions performed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). As the Department's oldest component, BLS is the nation's principal fact-finding agency charged with reporting on key employment indicators that affect the personal living conditions of all Americans. Data produced by the Bureau has been used in a variety of capacities that range from determining economic performance to formulating public and social policy.

Office Automation Clerk, GS-326-2/3/4/5, BLS-01-SUM

Position Brief: As a Clerk (OA), you will perform clerical, assistant, or technical work that requires knowledge of the procedures and techniques involved in carrying out the work of an organization and involved application of procedures and practices within the framework of established guidelines.
Background needed:Students must possess word processing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel. A qualified typist is required (40 wpm). To qualify for the GS-4/5 levels you must have educational experience beyond the high school level.
Employee Benefits
Security Administration
(EBSA)
Positions are located at the Frances Perkins
Building.
The Employee Benefits Security Administration EBSA is responsible for the administration and enforcement of Title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and the Federal Employees' Retirement System Act of 1986 (FERSA). The primary mission of EBSA is to protect the pension, health and other benefits of participants in private sector employee benefit plans. EBSA directly affects the livelihood of over 150 million people who participate in ERISA covered plans, and protects the U.S. economy's single largest source of capital for investment--pension funds. Currently, there are over six (6) million private sector employee benefit plans which hold more than $4.8 trillion in assets.

Investigator, GS-1801-7/9, EBSA-01-SUM

Position Brief: In this position you will conduct report and document analysis and research laws administered by EBSA involving employee benefits plans. You may assist investigators in the conduct of civil and criminal investigations. You will receive calls and inquiries for information relative to office programs and activities. In addition, you will use word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print a variety of standardized documents using a glossary or prerecorded formats, form letters, standard paragraphs, and mailing lists. You will also participate in special projects with senior specialists requiring that the student accomplish some of the tasks that would normally be done by the specialist.
Background Needed: One year or above of graduate studies in business, accounting or pre-law.

Position Brief: You will be responsible for performing a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of management and program analysis. You will also be responsible for filing, compiling data, word processing and data entry, and for providing general assistance to the professional staff.

Position Brief:You will be responsible for answering telephones, assisting callers and referring them to the appropriate staff. You will also be responsible for providing general assistance to the professional staff, handling all incoming mail, filing and word processing.
