Services (PASS)Program (formerly the Clerical Support Program) is a
National Office program that provides entry-level support staff a combination
of on-the-job-training (OJT), classroom sessions and courses designed to
develop or enhance competencies. OJT assignments serve as a mechanism for
managers to expeditiously fill critical support staff positions within a short
time frame.
The Career Enhancement Program (CEP), which provides a 12-month-long opportunity to improve and expand your career and promotion potential through a systematic and planned approach to career progression. Different programs within CEP can serve as bridges from GS-7 positions and below to higher-level technical, administrative, and professional positions. The DOL MBA Fellows Program is a 2-year program designed to attract outstanding individuals with business skills acquired either through graduate education and/or related equivalent experience who can implement a business approach to managing the Department of Labor. Participants receive extensive training, challenging rotational assignments and shadowing experiences during their tenure in the program. The Supervisory and Managerial Training Program (SMTP) provides supervisors, managers and team leaders with a systematic, holistic and competency-based approach to leadership development. The SMTP utilizes a three-pronged approach to supervisory development to include: 1) Pre-Supervisory Awareness Series -an introduction to the day-to-day duties of a supervisory for non-supervisors; 2) New Supervisor Training -80 hours of required core-competency training and 3) Continuous Development to encourage all managers to participate in a minimum of 24-hours of activities and events to learn new skills or learn new trends, laws and/or regulations. The Management Development Program (MDP) is a 12-18 month program that is designed to prepare DOL's future leaders for the 21st century workplace. The agencies selected participants complete a 360-degree leadership assessment program and participate in developmental experiences to enhance the Executive Core Qualifications and the supporting 27 leadership competencies. The Senior Executive Service (SES) Candidate Development Program (CDP), provides a series of intensive developmental experiences for a number of carefully selected GS/GM-14 and 15 level employees who have high potential for assuming executive responsibilities. SES Candidates develop and reinforce their senior-level strategic, leadership and interactive skills that are defined by the Office Personnel Management as the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ's). Also available for Senior Executives are the SES Forums. Several SES Forums are held each year to develop and reinforce the ECQ's and to support the continuous development of DOL's senior-level staff. The DOL Mentoring Program is designed to develop a diverse, prepared workforce by providing opportunities for employees to develop their career goals. It involves a deliberate pairing of a highly skilled or experienced employee with one who seeks growth and development in DOL. Public and Private Sector Career Development Programs are available through a variety of organizations, associations, and academic institutions.
